I've done numerous searches and all I find are instructions on how to get linux to do a soft power down without pushing the ATX button. That works fine on my vanilla knoppmyth setup using apm. However, I want the power button to execute a "powerdown -h". My bios is set to do a soft power down. I'm using an ASUS A7N8X-E MB.

Anyone know the magic tweak? I've having difficulties training everyone not to use the OFF switch...

You could always use a simple mechanical hack in the meantime... I.e. - Physically block the button. While it may not be pretty it could buy you some breathing time and help train people not to push it. (OK, almost nothing is going to deter a button obsessed 3 year old, but that's a different class of problem.)

Then how would I turn it on

Okay, right now I have the keyboard plugged in, so it might work for the short term. However, I when I get the IR set up, I plan to put the keyboard in the closet. From what I have read, I don't think there is anyway to set it to power up from the remote (unless I've missed something).

Same reason I turn off the stereo when I'm not using it. To save power. I also don't like the fan noise. Since I don't have a tuner card (yet), it doesn't have to say on to record TV.

Maybe when the fanless PSU I just ordered comes, I'll consider leaving it on more.

I know that... The two year old visiting on Sunday sure didn't...

I did move the Halt item to the main menu and my SO has started using it. Funny, the system is a lot more stable now...

Anyway, I've done some more searches and it seems I need to enable ACPI support instead of APM. If it is part of the knoppmyth package, I'll give it a try and let people know what happens.

ACPI is disabled in the kernel. You'll need to recompile the kernel to enable.

Both are...Everything is enabled in R5's kernel(Don't ask when it will be out)! One can just append in lilo.conf to disable or enable...
