I am planning to field new hard drives overseas, so naturally I would like some assurance that they are going to work properly in the field. That being said, they will be put in a usb enclosure and can be connected to the mythbox. If anyone can recommend testing objectives (and commands) that would be very helpful. Thank you.

You could also use the tools from the manufacturer to test the drives, Seagate, Western Digital and Hitachi etc all have utilities to test their Hard Drives. You will have to have the drives connected directly to a computer though, the utilities generally don't work on HDDs connected via USB.
