Post subject: | How do I : Update website with link to Mythweb regularly? |
I'm not the most well versed when it comes to Linux, so I'm loking for a little guidance in what I think should be a doable addition to my Myth box. I have a cable connection that is on all the time, but the IP is not static. I have a linksys wireless router (WR54G) between the cable modem and my myth backend. I have set up the wireless router to forward port 80 to the mythbackend, so that when I know the IP of the cable modem, I can pull up my mythweb and schedule, etc. The mythweb is password protected via instructions found on this forum, so no worries there. I have a web page with a static IP on the internet. How can I: Regularly (every hour or two) have the myth backend determine its external IP and update the web page with a link to the wythweb site? The missing components in my knowledge are: A) How do I schedule a script to run (via cron?) every so often on Knoppmyth. B) How do I find out the external IP of a box behind the router from the box itself? Advice? -swc |

I use dyndns, but my update client is a little flake. I have been using the following script as well: http://www.chrismenard.com/BuildMythWebPage.sh
Generates an HTML file with links through the IP address ftp's the HTML file to the Internet
update the parms (your internet server, ftp info, port of mythweb apache server, etc) should be pretty easy to figure out. run via cron regularly to generate page http://www.chrismenard.com/myth.html |

I use a free service called no-ip.com. It gives you both a domain name and it keeps track of your IP. It has a linux based client that keeps track of your IP and reports it to their servers. http://www.no-ip.com |
