So I came home from a long weekend, and my Myth box wasn't reponding. I couldn't even do a CTRL-ALT-F1.

Trying to ssh into the box gave me a bunch of "INIT: cannot execute /sbin/getty" and then just locked up.

So I had to just hit the power switch after nothing responded. When it rebooted, after detecting the harddrive, I got the same error messages and then it stopped running it. I heard it might be something wrong with my inittab file.

Any linux gurus able to help me on this one?

Edit: I realize I posted this in the wrong forum. If someone could kindly move it to the General Linux forum, it would be appreciated.

Perhaps a search of the forum.... Some one else had the same issue not 2 days ago.

It's a different issue. I don't have an ext3 problem and there is no error message saying that init can't be found (in ref. to the other alluded thread). It's having trouble starting /sbin/getty. Doing a search for that on this forum reveals only two threads, both of which have nothing to do with this problem.

Searching on debianhelp.com reveals that they think my kernel is screwed up and someone else solved this problem by installing udev. I just have to figure out how to reboot into single user mode to try it out.

I never had any power outages, the system was just sitting there with the front end crashed. I couldn't open an xterm or ssh in. It's also completely filled the /myth partition, but I wouldn't think that that would hose the system.
