On a new install of R5A16, on every startup, I get two identical messages saying Code: fbsetbg: Something went wrong while setting the wallpaper. Run 'display -geometry 800x600+0+0 -window root /usr/local/lib/knoppmyth.png' to find out what. Running that command gives me this: Code: *** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (!prev): 0x08050190 ***
Aborted how can I either fix this or prevent it from popping up as I need to use the mouse to click OK window on each startup? |

Hi Escher0, How curious and coincidental. I also experienced that exact error on a new install last night. I was loading R5A16 onto a Seagate 300gig 700mhz Compaq Deskpro with Matrox G200 video card. Being "older hardware' I expected the audio not to work and tv card issues, but the "fbsetbg:" was a first for me. A couple of clicks and it goes away however next reboot it's back. Share the secret if you find the cause

I also saw this message last night for the first time for no apparent reason. My system has been up and running for a few weeks and I was not aware of doing anything that may have caused the problem. |

I am also seeing this problem. I thought it had cropped up after I had tinkered with the mainmenu.xml, but after I removed my changes the error remained. Exact same symptoms except my error is saying 720x480 instead of 800x600. Pls help. |

SOLUTION: I was able to fix this problem for me by doing an apt-get update and apt-get upgrade. that's: Code: apt-get update
apt-get upgrade I saw some updates for apache in there, so hopefully this fixes my network issues, too. |

I don't know that I would recommend this at the moment. there are a ton of new changes in debian unstable right now, and they very well could cause some problems. |

I let you guys know if I have any other problems... I haven't noticed any issues yet and it fixed this error. |

Okay, yesterday live tv froze and I did a forced restart. After that I couldn't get the backend to start up. Went through the forums and tried a lot of things, but ended up re-installing Knoppmyth from the cd... Not sure if it was because I did the apt-get upgrade, but I said I'd post if I had any problems... |

I've encountered this problem as well but only after installing firefox on a fresh install of Knoppmyth R5a16. When installing firefox multiple packages get upgraded including glibc which I believe is the root of the problem but I am not certain. I fixed my trouble by changing entries in /etc/apt/sources.list to "testing". Firefox then istalled without incident as well as without upgrading any packages. |

Hi nypno, Would you be so kind and share which items in the sources list that you changed to "testing" ? Is it the same items that we removed the "un" ? I suspect you are correct about the firefox and in coincidence or related with the going stable. I normally only install mozilla for the browser, however this time I did firefox instead and up popped the error. I am going to redo the upgrade and try mozilla with the stable to see if the same issue occurs. Thanks Mike |

I just left these lines in sources.list and changed them to testing. deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free It seems to me that Debian released a new stable version since knoppmyth R5a16, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'll be installing every thing I can from testing and hoping I don't see this problem again. |

I'm sorry, I don't get what you're doing. Are you removing all the other entries so that only debian is upgraded? And does that fix this problem? |

actually if you really want to be safe you could move all the way to stable, as the latest stable version now should have all packages at lest as new as knoppmyth does. moving your sources to stable should pretty much assure that you don't have any problems installing whatever you want, though kde and gnome could still cause some problems just because of the massive amount of dependencies. |

Hello, Escher0. I am not doing any upgrade at all. I am using testing to install packages that were not included in Knoppmyth (ie. firefox, ntp-simple etc). This probably won't help you if you are getting this error message right off the bat with a fresh install. P.S. Thanks for the info Xsecrets that is good to know. |
