I disabled the X screen saver and DPMS because I didnt want it to come on while im watching it...but if I fall asleep, I would like the GUI to go into screen blank(black) mode after the movie is done. I dont see a way to enable a myth screen saver, is there one? If the GUI has focus, but there has been no keyboard/mouse/IR events in some period of time...go black! Help please... |

I looked for info about this on the mythtv mailing list archives recently. There was some discussion about how it could be done, but at that stage, no one had an integrated solution. |

I don't know about every one else, but my knoppmyth R5A16 install does this out of the box. Granted it will not go into blank screen when something is playing (good thing), but after 15 min or so on a menu it blanks out. |

Perhaps someone finally implemented something. I'm still running R5A15.1 (Myth0.18 instead of A16=Myth0.18.1) |

I don't think it's a mythtv thing, and I'm fairly certain that it's been working ever since the switch to R5A? |

Must be magic. I certainly didn't add anything. |

Hi, Maybe it is a monitor feature? Mike |

nah it's not a monitor feature this is on my hdtv, and I have had it sit on other sources for hours, but on knoppmyth if I leave it at the menu's it goes black after a few minutes, and all I have to do is press a key on the remote and it comes back. however like I said it will not blank out during a show, so I can watch a whole two hour show and never have to press a button. I'll have to do some testing, I can't remember if it will blank when a show is paused or not, but I want to say yes. |

My box definitely doesn't blank the screen while on the menu ![]() Could it be something to do with what kind of output you're using? If its svideo/composite etc it doesn't blank it, but if you'are using vga/dvi it does? |

that's possible, because I am using vga output to a component converter, but I can confirm my screen blank works exactly like I want it other than the fact that it doesn't blank on pause. |

I have seen what Xsecrets is talking about, and despite what anyone says, between different releases A10-16, after doing an upgrade sometime I would have to completely disable all screen blanking, and sometimes it would work like X describes. This is with a stock upgrade. I know to cesman this seems impossible, but it is very true. Since A15 and 16 I have not needed to disable it blanking, but there has been no screen-saver like feature with my hardware. Now with a plasma I would love to have this back, but ever since A10 or so, it has gone black during live tv and recorded shows. So this is no good. I think it may be a combination of powersave settings in the bios and something in the linux config that I just don't know. |

Hi, The only time I have seen Live tv or a play of a recorded show going to black is if using tv out and the "Use GUI size .." is checked, then after a few moments it goes to black. Not what I would call a screen saver though. Mike |

no livetv or recorded show don't go to black obviously you wouldn't want that, but on my setup the menu's do go to black which is a good thing to avoid screen burn, particularly on my rear projection hdtv. |

Hi Xsecrets, I think we chatted before on this very topic, you are lucky as that would be a nice feature especially for a plasma as they will burn quick! Even if there is a moving picture, they will burn if it is a repeating image. (read as endless background loop) If you ever figure out the cause, please share that great feature ![]() Mike |
