Hello everyone, i have reading about MythTv for a while now and i think im ready to build a box...but i have a question first...what is the physical wiring config? meaning do i bypass my cable box?..because i have alot premium channels that i dont think i would be able to see without it.. also do i need an s-video cabel from the pc to tv? or does the coaxial cable take care of that connection? thanks Al |

If you have premuim channels that your cable box decodes or even digital channels, you can wire from wall to cablebox to tuner card. then what ever channel the cable box is tuned to will flow to Myth. You will need to have your mythbox change the channels on the cable box, most popular is an IRBlaster (search here or on www.lirc.org) next is a serial cable. I only used my mythbox for my analog channels (channels < 100) . for this the cable from wall connects to the tuner card. the tuner card selects the channel. you do not need s-video, any cabling that is support by your tv/video board will do. Im using composite. |

If you need your cable box to decode your channels, then yes - you will need to continue to use your cable box. MythTV can control yor cable box with a serial cable or an IR Blaster. The connection from your cable box to the MythTV PC will be either S-Video, Composite, or coax - S-Video being preferable. Searching the forum for "serial cable" or "ir blaster" may prove to be more helpful. Allan |

Hi, Hardware for tv out will depend on what your computer is and can support. I kept it simple and used a PVR-350 as it does most of the work for record / playback and also has tv out running the R5A16. If you do a little searching around the forum, there should be a lot of ideas for you to compare. Enjoy Mike |
