When I boot the PC, LILO is run and display "Loading Linux............." at the bottom of the screen, then a carriage return
But after: nothing!?

What can I do?

I fell into this issue after setting more debug message in the kernel to investigate the issue I have on the cx88 module (timeout). The disk was full, so I deleted the logs (debug, kern, syslog), re-create them with empty content, and reboot.

Any help?

You can boot off the CD and check the drive for errors.

fsck.ext3 /dev/hda1

In most cases...

This doesn't help unfortunately... The file system is clean.

What surprise me is that there is no "Uncompressing Linux" message, which means that the linux image could be broken.
So I have switched also to the old image (vmlinuz.old), and this doesn't help either...

I'm thinking that maybe LILO is broken and doesn't read correctly vmlinuz or doesn't call correctly the entry point in the image...
Maybe I should re-install LILO, but I don't know how.

Any other idea?

Just boot from the CD and rerun it, like you did with the fsck. If you search here for "lilo", "mount" and "chroot" you should find detailed directions...

Thanks for the help, but I solved it finally with the following:
. I backuped hda1 on hdb1
. I re-install manually KnoppMyth on hda1
. Then, I have swapped the database with the old one, and done the post-configuration (Nvidia drivers, alsa mixer, mplayer config, xine config...).

Now, it is ok.
