First let me say i have no knowledge of linux. I would like to use my old PC as multimedia player. Basic setup is PIII800, 256Mb, 40Gb (raid HighPoint’s HPT370) , ATI Rage, ABIT BX133. Computer is hooked on LAN to WIN2000 server with large HD capacity. I wolud like to play MP3s, AVIs, DivX, some picture gallery, listen to internet radio and display all of it on my TV with TV out on my VGA card.

At this point i don't plan to use the PC as recorder, so TV card is not needed. But i am using (on MS System) IR over USB (girder) witch i would like to use in the future (probably won't work).

Could someone tell me if i should even bother installing the settopbox on this sistem (will it work or not??? - what would be necesary hardware changes).
