I have a bog std pal tv for live and recording and a projector for DVD watching.

Is there anyway to have both going or switchable?

I would like to watch tv through composite/s-vid.
and DVD's through vga, since the projector supports this seems to dave all that conversion stuff.

Is this a good idea if I could get it to work?

Search for "dual headed" or "twinview". There are some limitations when you start trying to do this however.
