Anyone try the new XviD 1.1.0 (released 12/30/2005) with KnoppMyth or MythTV? If so any install issues or improvments noted? http://www.xvid.org |

Quote: MythTV doesn't use Xvid. A lot of ppl on the forums have used Graysky's guide on updating Mplayer which includes XviD instructions. Honestly I don't know fully the capacity XviD is used for after installing. Updating Mplayer, codecs, and XviD is typically one of the 1st steps I do on a new install as I want to be able to play all the media I own. I see refrences to the codec thoughout Knoppmyth, when ripping, exporting using nuvexport . So I assume this means these programs export to the XviD codec rather than relying on the codec being installed. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4706 Quote: What is Xvid?

I used graysky's instructions to get wmv support, but xvid always just worked for me. |

Glad people are finding value in that guide I wrote ![]() It's unclear to me what advantage (if any) the 1.1.0 gives people over 1.0.3 for playback. You can read the changelog at www.xvid.org if you want. They do say: Quote: It is mostly API compatible with the previous stable release as we dropped support for reduced resolution coding. If your application didn't use that feature then the upgrade is totally compatible.

Quote: Glad people are finding value in that guide I wrote That guide rocks!!! Well explained step by step, just what I needed as a newbie. Thanks for writing it. I installed XviD 1.1.0 on a spare box (PIII 500, R5A22), installed and seems to be working fine. It is tough to tell if playback is helped at all XviD files always play well on every piece of hardware I have tested. Some other changes listed that may be a good thing Quote: Various decoder and encoder speedups
The above box doesn't have a DVD drive I can import home movies in. I may have to test on another machine. Anyone know of a way import a DVD though MythTV and view/log exactly how long the import/encoding process takes. |
