After a fresh install of R5A26 with a Athlon 1200 and PVR 250-MCE, compiled ivtv driver from whatever was on there 0.4.?

'Watch TV' gives me a black screen and goes back to the menu, I did some searching and found a few things: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7660
my guide was empty..

So I run mythfilldatabase as myth user (http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6070&highlight=root+mythtv+xmltv)
and get 'xmltv is empty, please delete and run me with --configure'.
(if I run as root it says 'does not exist, run me with --configure').
Ive also tried 'tv_grab_au --configure', which works and gets the channel from my region, but doesnt seem to help mythfilldatabase.

After running apt-get update
apt-get install xmltv
it says its upto date.

I've also followed this
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... thtv+xmltv
(added HOME=/home/mythtv into /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend )

I couldnt find 'ZapListings.pm' Im not sure if it applies to me as I dont have a remote.
http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=138

I'm finaly out of options, anyone got anything for me to try?
P.S. Once you quit Myth and at the 'prompt' (is that what its called?) how do I go back to Myth without restarting? If I run Mythtv it says "cannot connect to x-server"..
Thankyou.

R5A26 ships with ivtv 0.4.0 stable, was there any need to recompile?
After (as user) running tv_grab_au --conifgure did you run mythfilldatabase --manual in a XTERM?

Before running mythfilldatabase --manual you have to make sure that you have chosen the grabber for your region in mythtv-setup!

Edit: I overlooked your PS: linux is running consoles, you can switch between consoles using {CTRL}{ALT}{Fx}, where x = 1 is the first console. X (desktop) is running on x = 7, so hitting {CTRL}{ALT}{F7} will return you to the desktop. You either will see that background image (man sitting and watching TV, you can start Mythfrontend by clicking right button on desktop and selecting 'restart') or MythTV userinterface.
I have the feeling that your problem can be solved without recompiling something. I might be wrong, but its all about setting up MythTV properly.

There probably was no need to compile again, Ive been trying to get this damn 250mce working in Suse 10 for the past few days and went and did the same thing...did I mention Im a little new to Linux.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up.
Ok, I havent setup my region in mythtv-setup (in "3. Video Source"), just tried it and it seems to freeze at 50% after I have applied the settings. I can still go back and forward to different consoles..
Done a quick search on here and nothing pops up..
I've left it for 10mins and still nothing, net access is working -I can get the weather fine.

I feel it so close...

PS. Im loving the consoles, discovering more and more all the time, linux is ****ing cool!!

Its not freezing, its running 'behind' the GUI, you can switch to it hitting {ALT}{TAB}
