once I got knoppmyth installed and mostly working, i edited my XF86Config-4 to enable tvout:
here's my XF86Config-4
Code: Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "XFree86 Configured" Screen 0 "tvout" 0 0 InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" # PS/2 Mouse using /dev/input/mice in Kernel 2.6 # Serial Mouse not detected InputDevice "USB Mouse" "CorePointer" EndSection
Section "ServerFlags" Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true"
EndSection
Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo" FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/PEX" # Additional fonts: Locale, Gimp, TTF... Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection
now, on boot, mythtv starts, and i get the "pre-scaling images" progress bars, and then just the background. no menu or anything.
FYI my TV is the only monitor connected. i did the setup with a regular monitor, then switched over to TV
i can ssh into the box to edit config files. what do i need to edit to fix this?
thanks
matt

looks like you have edited out all of your metamodes, so you probably need to change this line too.
Code: Option "ConnectedMonitor" "dfp,tv"
change "dfp,tv" to "tv"

done. however, i get the same result.
when i was running freevo on this box, the above settings worked fine. freevo has a conf file that specifies the display resolution. if the resolution in freevo was set higher than the X resolution, i would only see part of the freevo screen. could this be what's happening?

same place you find XF86Config-4
/etc/X11
there are several example XF86Config-4.some.kind.of.sample files in there.
