Post subject:  When do the /myth/pretty symlinks get created/updated?

I have not seen any changes to the list of programs in my /myth/pretty folder for a while now and am wondering at what point the script runs to make the links and if there is a way to manually run it.

Also, several shows that I deleted via MythWeb are still showing up in /myth/pretty - does the script clean up the since deleted shows as well?

Thanks

it doesn't run automatically unless you have a cron script to do that for you. there is a post around somewhere that describes how to create a cron job to run it a 5 and 35 past the hour.

yes it can be run manually.

yes it does clean up deleted shows.

It looks like on a fresh R5B7 install that the pretty script is set to automatically run. I just discovered the pretty folder and what is does by reading some posts, and was preapred to configure it. To my surprise the folder was populated with all of my recordings, and it updated with new recordings. Very nice feature!

Maybe it's due to my backend being an upgrade to R5B7, but my pretty script isn't working quite right either. There are currently lots of files in /myth/pretty/ that I've deleted, and there are a few missing that were recorded yesterday. How can I tell if my /usr/local/bin/mythlink.sh is current or not?

Also, I second the question concerning how mythlink gets run. I did a crontab -l as both mythtv and root and nothing appeared.

I was trying to add a cron job to run mythfilldatabase (as it didnt seem to be running automatically through the myth gui config) on my R5B7 install and saw the mythlink.sh being called in /etc/crontab. However, it was trying to run /tv/mythlink.sh, which doesn't exist on my system - I modified the /etc/crontab file so that the line looks like this:

Code:
5,35 * * * *    root    nice -n 19 /usr/local/bin/mythlink.sh

And it appears to work fine now.

Thanks for the tip. I found the same thing after I got crontab to finally show me the mythtv user's cron settings. I'm confident this was the cause of mythlink not running properly.

OTOH, I have no idea why crontab -e wasn't showing this to me before.... could it be because there are two crontabs? One at /etc/crontab and one at /usr/bin/crontab ?

Post subject:  Updated script for R5B7

This forum posting describes (and provides a downloadable copy of) an updated mythlink.sh that handles the MPG files, as well as stops making dummy NUV files.
