I've ran the add_bootsplash.sh and I don't think I have a boot splash. How would I know? (Seriously, I'm confused as to what this should do for me.) I'm not sure if my kernel supports using a framebuffer for my consoles. How can I tell? I don't know if my kernel supports a boot splash. How can I tell? I don't have /proc/splash you can see some of my conf here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 9748#49748 |

When you boot the KnoppMyth system, do you see a fullscreen image, or do you see text scroll by? |

I see text scroll by. I'm really not as interested in a boot splash as I am set my VT[1-6] consoles to use a frame buffer, so that I can put a 20 or so pixel margin around them to overcome overscan. I am realy drawing at straws here. But, Cecil did tel me that it sounded like I wanted the botsplash, so I am persueing it. |

Also, I tried boting off of the KM R5A26 and KM R5A30.2 CDs and both had bootsplashes at the "boot:" prompt. okay, so I'm lost. I've tried manually modifying /etc/lilo.conf to call /boot/initrd.splash but still no splash. Is there a way to extract the initrd.splash off the CD? |

The images are appended to initrd when you run the add_bootsplash script and answer yes. There is not initrd w/ boot splash on the CD. The kernel has support for bootsplash. If you are not interested in bootsplash, what is the point of this thread? I gave you that answer because bootsplash will allow you to place a graphic on VT 1 - 6. If you run the script and reboot, and got to VT 1, you'll see that "the console appears in a tv"... |

cesman wrote: The images are appended to initrd when you run the add_bootsplash script and answer yes. I have done this, but I can't tell for sure if the script successfully appended the images. After reboot, my VT1 does not appear in a tv as you describe below. cesman wrote: There is not initrd w/ boot splash on the CD. I'm not sure if this is in reference to me saying I saw the boot splash when booting from the CD, or me asking to try to extract the images from the CD. I booted from the CD to test my hardware capability. I believe I proved that I am capable of displaying a bootsplash. Right? cesman wrote: The kernel has support for bootsplash. Great, that answers one level of debugging for me. cesman wrote: If you are not interested in bootsplash, what is the point of this thread? I said I wasn't sure I was interested in bootsplash because I wasn't sire that was what would fit my need. cesman wrote: I gave you that answer because bootsplash will allow you to place a graphic on VT 1 - 6. If placing a graphic on VT 1 - 6 also allows me put a border on all 4 sides, and not just put a penguin in one corner, then I guess bootsplash is what I want. At this point, I heard enough to be pretty confident that that if in a 'yes', so I do want a bootsplash. cesman wrote: If you run the script and reboot, and got to VT 1, you'll see that "the console appears in a tv"...
I have done this and this is not happening for me. I have even formated and reinstalled KnoppMyth R5A30.2. I do not know where to go from here. Suggestions? |

When booting the CD, the image you see isn't an result of bootsplash. Do you see any error when you the script? The image is appended to initrd.gz. The script is straight forward, take a look at it... |

Yeah, I've examined the script and it all makes sense to me. I don't get any errors. I just don't get any results. ![]() update: I was reading around http://www.bootsplash.org/kernel.html and noticed that it mentions 16bit color depth. I know my XF86Config-4 is defaulting to 24. I'm pretty sure that the bootsplash fb is completely independant from X-anything, right? But do I need to do something to make sure that the console fb is 16bit? Also, is there a way to verify that the console is even using an fb and not running as a text console? This onion has so many layers! |

My default color depth is also 24 bits. Bootsplash works w/o issue on my Aquos and my TV (note on the TV, the VTs are jacked up. I don't see this as an issue however as I doesn't use the VTs on the TV). |

Post subject: | add_splash fails |
I would like to change the bootsplash image. I changed the image in /etc/bootsplash/themes/current/images/bootsplash800x600.jpg (not the name) and ran add_bootsplash. It goes tru all the motions an runs lilo without complaints but the new image does not appear after I reboot, only the default knoppmyth image. What needs to be done as well? |
