Post subject:  Circumvent a keyboard's default driver?

I have a Dell Remote with a goofy USB receiver that identifies itself as a keyboard mouse combo. It gets "mounted" (?) with the HIDDEV driver. But when I cat the device mount point or the event mount point, not all of the buttons give signals. I want t try to mount the USB device using another driver, but I have no clue where to start.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this?
