Post subject:  Real Player/Streaming video

Has anyone used Real Player for Linux, either on a KnoppMyth box or some other distro? I really hate Real Player, and I don't use it on Windows, but I subscribe to mlb.tv (live streams of every baseball game) and it will only work with Windows Media Player or Real Player. Last year I just watched on Windows machine, but I'd love to be able to watch them on my big TV in the living room.

One thing I did last year was copy the URL for the stream and play it in Media Player Classic on my Windows machine because I didn't like playing it in the browser. Should I be able to do this with mplayer (have all the codecs installed) and avoid Real altogether?

Any news on this? I am considering MLB.tv since the Braves aren't going to be on TBS anymore. It would be nice to be able to watch the games on my TV via my mythbox if possible. I just thought it would be worth checking.

You can integrate the rp8codecs and rp9codecs (mplayer codecs) into mplayer if you recompile the binary. I can currently throw just about any real player file at it and it plays fine.
