Hi folks:

I tried to get that "warm and fuzzy feeling" others talked about after backing up their config
using Mondorescue. Instead, I got an error

I added the sources to my sources.list as described on the wiki.
I then installed Mindi-kernel and Mondo.


And then I ran the command given on the wiki


Towards the end, I get this error:

I checked some of the Mondo docs for this, and Googled, but nothing at all turned up.
Does anyone know what this error means?

Hi,
The error means it cannot find the "failsafe" kernel that Debian based Linux distributions should use. If you leave off the "-k FAILSAFE", it should use your kernel "as is". If you are the only person using this backup on only that computer, you should be fine.

Whenever I tried it without the failsafe kernel it fails. On my R5A22 system mondo works fine using that exact command. However I didn't need to add those apt sources as mondo is in the debian repositry. You could "apt-get remove mondo mindi-kernel", delete those extra sources, apt-get update, then apt-get install mondo.

An old thread, but thought I would add my recent experience. As of R5F27 using the "-k FAILSAFE" option will actually cause mondoarchive to fail. As Andrew suggested in his previous post, it will work if you omit the "-k FAILSAFE" option.

works for me.

I recently got my R5F27 install working great.

I want to install azureus as a torrent client, but before I do I would like to backup my entire system to another disk.

if i use "mondo" before instlaling, can i easily get back to where i was system wise if azureus hoses my install?

I have never made an image of a linux install before. Thanks

The short answer is yes, but be sure to consider the following:

1. As with any backup procedure, it is prudent to do a trial restore to a spare drive to make sure that the backup/restore process works.

2. I'm backing up to DVD, so I am excluding the really large directories like /myth/tv, /myth/gallery, /myth/music, etc. This means that the restore procedure will not recover recordings, photos, music, etc. Keep this in mind if you take a similar approach.
