hi hope someone out their can help me out i recently updated my router on my windows box from a netgear rp614 to a linksys wrt54gp2 and since then i have been unable to get the myth box online to update the tv guide and network between the 2 computers any suggestions would be most helpful i got the new router for voip ok and i should mention that my linux skills are very limited so any help most appreciated thanks forum bye forum from phillip cole |

Do you get a valid IP address? To check, run "pump -s" from the command prompt. Should look something like this: Code: root@mythtv:~# pump -s Device eth0 IP: 192.168.1.160 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Broadcast: 192.168.1.255 Network: 192.168.1.0 Boot server 192.168.1.1 Next server 0.0.0.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Gateways: 192.168.1.1 Domain: rochester.rr.com Nameservers: 4.2.2.5 4.2.2.1 Renewal time: Fri Apr 14 06:22:06 2006 Expiration time: Fri Apr 14 07:52:06 2006 If that looks ok, do a "ping" test: ex: Code: ping 206.117.161.84 Should return results. If so, then the router is routing to the outside. Now try with a DNS name: Code: ping www.geektools.com
Should resolve to the same address above. I just picked that host as a likely target that wouldn't be blocking pings. If in doubt, ping a host from your desktop first, to verify that it pings, and what the IP resolves to. Then try it from your Myth box. |

It sounds like you have the router setup and connected to Windows which in turn is sharing the connection with Linux? That is what I get from reading your message. If that isn't the case, then you need to elaborate. If that is the case, it doesn't make sense. The router should be "directly connected" (wired or wireless) to both systems. Configuring networking with a "router" should not be dependent on Windows. Code: netcardconfig
