Post subject:  What is a bunzip (can you tell Im a noobie)

I am trying to install my new Microsoft media center remote per the instructions at http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/MCE_Remote

The second set of code tells me to wget the lirc-0.8.0.tar.bz2 (which I did).

It then says to: bunzip lirc-0.8.0.tar.bz2.

When I try to do that I get a no such thing as a bunzip error.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong here. Is bunzip included with knoppmyth or should I use something else.

I actually did find bunzip2 in the forums and tried it but it told me this file was not a bunzip2 file!!!

Possibly that the file is corrupt. There's a section of the LinuxTips page on the wiki which deals with how to unpack various compression and archve formats.

tjc, you have amazing powers of deduction. It turns out that the file was corrupt!

I used another mirror to get the file and bunzip2 and it worked perfect.

For anyone interested I changed the code listed in the Wiki from

Code:
wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/lirc/lirc-0.8.0.tar.bz2

to

Code:
wget http://superb-east.dl.sourceforge.net/lirc/lirc-0.8.0.tar.bz2

I blame Arthur Conan-Doyle for teaching me that you have to consider all of the possibilities and only eliminate the impossible. ;-)
