Sigh...
Auto upgrade doesn't choose the package for you. After rebooting, it asks what you want to install. The i586 debs are default as those would run on more systems. If you have R4V5 install, install-i686-l will install the 0.16 debs. If you have an earlier version, then all you need to do is read the instructions on how to upgrade to the 0.16 debs.

Thanks for your patience.

Got it, following cesman's last instructions.

All the modules now show as i686-0.16 without having to auto-upgrade again.
