I have been working on this problem since may 17th.. the first install of knoppmyth. This is my first thread that didnt help..

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1472&highlight=

My horizontal refresh...or somehting like that does NOT keep up with movies.. SNES videogames.. anything like that.. It only happens when there is alot of movement on the screen. two things to keep in mind, i have a movie that really shows off the defect. It starts with the universal logo(which has alot of screen movement) In windows xp the movie plays great. Also i currently have 2 knoppmyth boxes that ALL have the same problem. they all have totaly different hadware.. ill run though them

amd xp 2500+
gforce 4 mx440
MSI via KT6 delta
1 gig ram

amd xp 2700+
512 ram
Gforce 4 5600
via kt400 chipset

both systems have the problem. I have'nt seen if MythTv has this problem hopefully in the next couple days ill find out. I thought it was a refresh problem (i did set the XCONFIG-4 file to the 20-50/60 settings as indicated. The problem shows on the TV with svideo as well as on the monitor. Any chance its the Nvidia drivers?? Am i the only one having this problem? Thats hard to believe since i have 2 boxes with the same problem.

-at your mercy

:(

This has been discussed about a million times. it is deffinately the nvidia drivers, they cannot (no version of linux nvidia open or closed source) output an interlaced signal. so you have to use the deinterlace filter, however if you are using xvmc you cannot use the filter. so turn off xvmc and turn on the deinterlace filter and I think you will see your problem magically go away.

are you refering to the xconfig-4 file or the deinterlace option under setup/tv/playback?? I would think your refering to some type of switch under the xconfig file, since the problem is not just under tv.. in fact its not just on tv output its on the monitor as well. If its the xcongig file could you be so kind as to copy the command to put into the file? xsecrets.. your on my christmas card list buddy!! :)

OK a month of frustruation has been solved!! It turns out that the snes horizontal lines were a different problem (still unsolved). But The biggie!! Movies that sucked to watch has been solved.

Original when i was first setting up my xconfig-4 file i copied and pasted this from a suggestion (somewhere maybe on this forum).

Quote:
Option "MetaModes" "800x600, 800x600; 800x600, 640x480; 640x480, 640x480;640x480, NULL;NULL, 640x480"

it turns out that this little line in my xconfig file caused me alot of grief. :D
it put ever so tiny horizontal stutters in the pictures. commenting this line out makes for perfect movies!!!

side tip.. I recompiled mplayer so the few of my movies that didnt work right would play smooth, so im sure that some people out there have movies that need a bigger selection of codec to draw from if so,ill do a howto, let me know.

:( CRUSHING defeat... WHen i got home i found out that TV out doesnt work. So while commenting the line:

Option "MetaModes" "800x600, 800x600; 800x600, 640x480; 640x480, 640x480;640x480, NULL;NULL, 640x480"

does fix my problem playing movies on the monitor, tv out no longer works. The good news is that, that does narrow down my problem, bad news is i have no idea how to go about making this work.. maybe ill have to use a vga/svideo converter.. but thats ~$100 expensive

just unplug the monitor and the output should go to the tv. by removing the metamode you removed the twinview which means it is only going to be shown in one place not both.

well it's hard to say the one thing I do know is if you are using twinview ( both monitor and tv at same time) then only one display can use XV. My suggestion would be to just forget about the monitor, ditch it and only use the TV.

There's a set up option about which display should use xv under general if memory serves. On the other hand xv flat out didn't seem to work for me under twinview, which is what finally pushed me to go TV-out only... See my write up in the Tier 2 forum for details. The integrated video in my NForce2 chipset is essentially GeForce4 MX440.

ok well just alittle update.. i set it for TV-out only and it works flawlessly. I can live with no monitor. I will however make a script to switch back to twinview with the click of a menu item. I guess we will have to wait for Nvidia to come out with a working NEW driver for twinview and overscan and anything else that doesnt work in there linux drivers. Thanks for the help guys.

Here are the diffs from my twinview set up to my TV only set up. Note that there are some extra changes here, mostly ripping out unused stuff like modes for any resolution higher than 800x600, and probing for plug and play monitors. Also note the little white lies about the display size which let you control the use of 75 or 100 DPI fonts.
