Fresh r6 preview install with one modification: Installed vdpau (beta nvidia drivers and vidpau mplayer) for successful OTC ATSC DTV viewing / playback.
When execute transcode from within MythTV, job starts then immediately goes away, media not transcoded. Tried "low quality" default profile, "low quality" modified with resize, also tried transcode to ipod. In TOP I see the "mythtranscode" process appear briefly then disappear. Is this my system or is this a bug?

Did you open a flyspray task? I'm not entirely sure that the devs are cursing the forums for potential bugs now that they have the flyspray system up and running.

Okay then, I'll take it there (and will report back here if its configuration or if there's a workaround).

I for one almost never curse the forums as a whole. Although really dense and obnoxious newbies may get the occasional pox wished upon them.

Damn, I guess the human body really does require some minimum level of sleep to function!

Nawh. You're not even a fraction of a fragment of a shard of the threshold for that.

Well, that didn't work out so well.
Flyspray #257 closed as wontfix--
"The mythtv vdpau package contains unofficial backports. Because of this it will not be supported."
soo.. that's it then, eh?

It's a pickle. Old card underpowered. So a new card recommended here for its VDPau support among other things. Anyway, for some reason Xvmc will not come to life with this new card. The only time MythTV worked was after installing 6 and activating VDPau. But VDPau contains "unofficial backports", whatever those are, jams figured out in 257 to be the reason for transcode and flagging failures. Hopefully VDPau will be supported when Vdpau out of beta? Anybody know? Meantime, not feelin' it tonight for DIY and the money spent on a paperweight. Need sleep. G'nite!

after reverting to the non-vdpau mythtv and mplayer packages everything seems to behave..
maybe try it by hand with more recent patches?
Mythtv won't have support in the main branch

Understandably I guess flyspray isn't really the place to get help. It's to report bugs. (Though I see some help type stuff happens from time to time.) UPDATE: To all interested, the email reply I got from Jams closing the issue said reason for closing "Works for me". ) Later I think he changed it to "Won't fix." But at least we know from on high that a dev is running VDPau and it works for him! That's called "there's hope." SO, if anybody has any insights on how to solve this problem, it would be greatly appreciated! Likewise I'll share any solutions that come my way. With ATSC coming down the pike, I -- and I assume others watching -- are left with boxes that won't work without some kind of acceleration and could really use an angel right about now! jams wrote: from LinHES <flyspray@knoppmyth.net> reply-to LinHES <flyspray@knoppmyth.net> date Sat, Mar 7, 2009 at 7:41 AM subject [ LinHES ] #262 Task closed by jams THIS IS AN AUTOMATED MESSAGE, DO NOT REPLY.
