That's a possible solution, but I generally find the OSD messages a rather ugly hack when overlaid on the GUI menus. There really ought to be some way to get the MythTV menu system to do it as an organic results screen and then jump back out of the stack when you hit OK.

Hi,

I think the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If it is basic information that is being sought, a yellow / light yellow charactor presentented for a reasonable amount of time is useable. I find it is quite easy to read and with an upper or lower position, will be mostly in the clear.

I am sure the information could be added to the status page also, some how.

Or an alternate option could be a dialog box, you could even have a ok button there.

Mike

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:
Update to latest version of xmltv

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:
tv_grab_uk_rt over here in UK has been failing a lot lately with some funny unicode characters. Latest version ignores or strips them out

I would like to see the following added to R6:

Portal to:

www.hulu.com

I think this would be a great addition because:

It is the first legit service to offer a great selection of movies and current TV on demand.

I'd like to see the following feature/program added to R6:
brfransen's MP3 script - rips TV shows to MP3.

I think the addition of feature/program would be beneficial because:
It's useful. Make your own mp3s from American Idol, concerts on PBS, etc...

Feature/program X can be found at:
http://www.iw.net/~brfransen/myth/myth2mp3
See discussion here:
http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14392

Program X has the following dependencies:
Runs on R5F27 with no fuss. Just drop into /usr/local/bin and you're good to go, from the command line or you can configure as a job within MythTV.

One last feature request:

"On Screen Backup Status"

I've sent Cecil some code to implement this. Also a "check" button to reverify if you miss it the first time. With luck he'll like it enough to include it.

The script will be in the next release. Users will have to manually add it as a user job.

I have seen lots of posts about the mce ir blasters not working with the current version of lirc. Can the lirc please be updated to latest available to ensure that the lirc mceusb2 module is updated. The lirc install scripts could also do with modification, to reference mce ir blasters, and not just serial ir blasters. I am sure this would be very beneficial to lots of users.

I would like to see something like "distributed processing"

My backend records many shows, and all of my front-ends contribute to working the Job queue for commflag and transcoding. The front-ends could also capture recordings and have help with processing it's job queue.

Hi,

I came across a very cool interface project for Myth, and thought it might be an interesting addition to 6 if it fits:

http://noisymime.org/blog/?cat=11

The developer seems to be making some progress, but at this point (April '08) it is not 100%, but maybe by the time v6 of KM is being worked on this might be ready for inclusion.

Cheers
Victor

I assume you are talking about Gloss?

It is a nice piece of programming to make the menu items appear and disappear as you cursor up and down through them, but it seems like that would make it harder to actually use. You can't see all the available options on that menu without scrolling through the whole thing, then just to find that you are on the wrong page and have to scroll through another whole set just to see them, too.

Nice eye candy otherwise.

Just my opinion, YMMV

Yes it is Gloss that I was thinking about.

I can see how this could be a bit cumbersome if one were moving between menus.

Having said that, I find that the default menu in Myth a bit counter-intuitive too.

The only action that is on the main menu is "Watch TV", where most people when they turn it on are just as likely to want to Watch recordings, Watch Video, Play DVD, or Listen to Music. The result is that I ended up adding these to the main menu, and moving some of the more archane things like "Optical Media" to sub-menus.

This made my wife and the babysitter (aka inlaws) much happier.

In any case, it might be an interesting addition to offer Knoppmyth users that do like the interface.

Cheers
Victor
