What I'm trying to tell you is that I haven't had any problems with the backend since I fixed the offending recordings.

Right, I understand that point, but the point I'm trying to make is that I am concerned about another "offending recording" cropping up when I least expect it and killing my backend again. Until I'm confident that won't happen again, I don't feel safe in turning on commercial flagging on the backend.

Looks like a bug in 0.16 that has been fixed.

Unfortunately, I seem to still be having this problem. It is very sporatic (sp?) though. Is there any way I can 'fix' this without having to use the cvs version?

Probably not if the fix is in CVS...

I applied that patch and recompiled myself . If you're at all comfortable with code it's trivial. The patch is also pretty clearly safe, as all it does is adds sanity checks for a null pointer in two places.

http://cvs.mythtv.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.c ... 1.6&r2=1.7

- Unpack the source code in /usr/src/r4v5_src/mythtv-0.16/src/mythtv-0.16.tar.bz2

- From whereever you unpack it edit the file mythtv-0.16/programs/mythbackend/commercialflag.cpp to add the patch, and the file mythtv-0.16/settings.pro to change "/usr/local" to "/usr".

- Recompile and install. Search the forums for qmake for details of this.
