I know the words are not from you. Think of it as tough love.

Job?! LOL. I don't get paid for working on KnoppMyth. I cannot answer every question on the forum. If I tell someone to search the forum that is because the issue has been covered before. If I tell someone that they are posting in the wrong area, it is because they are. Do you know how many forums I search in order to build KnoppMyth? How many mailing list I read? How many times I recompile the kernel? If you don't appreciate my aid, the solution is simple don't use KnoppMyth.

Just wanted to say that the smiley removed all traces of sarcasm from cesman's post! :) No sarcasm was taken and I knew that none was intended.

It can be tough getting started and it's very frustrating, but if you make it you do learn quite a bit. I speak from 0.75 yr experience on the board here (thought it was longer than that!).

Cesman may seem tough at times, but underneath that gruff exterior beats a heart of STONE! :P

I know that this command is very simple... but i searched this forum and i didn't find anything. I googled too with no good results.

If I know how to answer a question, i give immediatily my help.
Perhaps, this is my way of making... but i think it's more constructive than other ways.
I hope translate have a meaning...

About half of it is stuff I've found myself explaining almost verbatim here and elesewhere. Other things, like this quote, I only wish I'd said as cogently:

Much of what looks like rudeness in hacker circles is not intended to give offence. Rather, it's the product of the direct, cut-through-the-bull**** communications style that is natural to people who are more concerned about solving problems than making others feel warm and fuzzy.

like the document...but the section that defines RTFM and STFW http://catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm should include STFF :)

Just bumping this thread back on topic, I have a probelm with playing (& ripping) audio CDs.
My system is a Shuttle SN41G2 running R4V5 and everything else works ok. I have a single DVD Writer installed as secondary master. I can play & rip DVDs fine, (did all the secret patches) but I can't get audio cd's to work. My permissions are exactly as in the various threads on the subject.

I tried checking /var/log/messages and syslog but nothing gets logged.

Any ideas appreciated.

Pete

Aha! That doesn't look right... Also you don't need to have mythtv listed twice for each group.

All of the following are group cdrom on my box...

Code:
root@black:/dev # ls -al | grep cdrom
brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     29,   0 Apr 14  2001 aztcd0
brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     41,   0 Apr 14  2001 bpcd
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            9 May 31  2004 cdrom -> /dev/scd0
brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     24,   0 Apr 14  2001 cdu535

brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     11,   6 May 30  2001 scd6
brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     11,   7 May 30  2001 scd7

brw-rw----    1 root     cdrom     15,   0 Apr 14  2001 sonycd

If I were you I'd be wondering what else on the box has the wrong ownership... For example I don't see ANY entries in /dev which belong to the utmp group.

tjc: my recent reinstallation of KnoppMyth R4V5 gives me almost identical results as pwood999... almost everything is root:utmp instead of root:cdrom like yours.

Except for, of course, /dev/scd0, which I changed per your instructions elsewhere.
