Does R4V2 include a firewall? I just want to have some host level security on all the ports that I'm not actively using (MythServer, Apache, SSH, SFTP, etc.) If one isn't included, could someone point me to a reasonably easy one to install and maintain? Also, I think that this would be a really good addition to future versions of KnoppMyth. It might also be a good idea to have to have apache already set up with BasicAuth using the not root username and password created with root. Thanks, Adrian |

This has been discused before, but you do realize most people using myth will have it behind a router, and the fact that the entire forums would fill up from top to bottom and run out of space from newbies who don't care about security and can't get to the stuff they want. There is a howto on the site for the Apache auth part. I would imagine that iptables is included in the kernel and the associated program, But I haven't verified that, however I seriously doubt that any form of graphical configuration utility is included. |

if you want to do some firewalling, you can always use the iptables command, assume that KnoppMyth is setup in the kernel to do so. |

Neato! this is just what I was looking for. Thanks. Yeah - still I think that easy firewall controls should be part of the dist even if they are left off by default. Who wants to rely on a router for the security of their machine? Adrian |

iptables is in the distro...so one could make the argument that firewall functionality IS included and disabled. If you are one who is concerned about security, you would also be concerned about sharing your firewall config with "strangers". Also, there is so much you can do with iptables now it would be silly to try to force everyone to use a standard. |
