Hi all:

Well, since I cannot seem to get my R5A22 install working properly again, I'm wondering
about the release of R5 proper. I know it's rude and ignorant to ask when R5 will be out,
but is it possible to get some idea of how many more versions there might be until R5 is released?
That would help me gauge whether to install R5C7 now, or wait for R5 proper to be released.

Again, I'm not asking when R5 will be released, but whether it's not many versions away. Is it
possible to make a rough guess at this?

Thanks.

Shplad

Dragons and monsters lurk in the general direction of where this post is headed. Short answer is, KM is a continuous process. Even when R5 is "done", KnoppMyth will continue to improve. If you box is borked, it's a good time to update. If it's summer and there are no interesting programs to record, it's a good time to upgrade.

My box goes weeks without needing a reboot. It never crashes on its own, and it has remarkably few issues and problems. Yet, the summer doldrums are upon us and there's nothing to watch. So I'll entertain myself by upgrading to the latest KM instead.

Besides, those 500G disks at Fry's are whispering in my ear...

Gotta say, R5C7 has got a lot of very slick enhancements. Built in PVR-350 output setup, better ir blaster setup scripts, ... and much more - http://www.mysettopbox.tv/CHANGELOG.txt Well worth the upgrade.

I've also written a set of notes intended to help simplify the process - http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10116

OK....
Back in the old days of R5V4 I managed to chew gum, dance on one leg, rub my head, read the entrails of chickens, and get output to the Pvr-350 TV out working. It worked great. Looked great! The process was something I don't want to repeat!

I went to R5A16 and didn't bother with Pvr-350 TV out. To old... to tired. Just did the nvidia output thing. Never thought the picture was as good.

Spent the last couple days of my life span getting R5C7 going (actually it came up in 45 mins) it's the "tweaks" that take days.

Anyway, I have missed the nice Pvr-350 output.

So, the question is........

Do I just need to run the script alluded to in the changelog (what is it called BTW?), and set my PVR-350 capture card output setting?

....Cover eyes, hold nose, plug ears.......

wait for blast......

thanks

When I upgraded from R5A26 to R5B7, I was pretty much blown away by the changes. Many significant improvements, and more stable (actually, it's been rock solid for me). I haven't yet done the upgrade from R5B7 to R5C7, but it looks like it should be even better.

Don't spend any more time trying to get R5A22 going -- move to the newer version. Also, if you have any recordings left over from your older install, check through the forum messages -- there's a good chance that you will be able to rebuild your database to get them back into your recordings menu.

siasl - The script is /usr/local/bin/setup_350.sh I think it's supposed to be run automatically by the installer, but it should'nt hurt to run it manually.

There is no reason not to consider the latest release stable.

Thanks all. I'm following your advice and installing R5C7 from scratch. No one seems to be
able to figure out my SQL database woes.

Onto R5C7!
