Hello all, I am sorta new to linux, so bare with me.

I just installed Knoppmyth R5.5 on an old P3 1GHz, 460MB of Ram, 100GB HDD, Nvidia Geforce 5600FX, Onboard Sound.

Now, when I installed I was getting that

"INIT: ID "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 min"

error, but I went through the steps in the hints, and I installed the drivers and everything seemed to be working. However, when I rebooted, after it had finished checking nvidia driver installation the Nvidia driver splash screen popped up (I think x was starting up), and my TV Output turned off. So the main problem is this, I can see everything on the monitor I have connected to the VGA port, but nothing from the composite video out when I am in x-windows.

If I do a ctrl+alt+1,2,3,4,5,6 to get to the console, the TV output turns back on and I can see the console, but when I do ctrl+alt+7, it turns back off. I have no idea what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated. If I need to post any log files, let me know which ones.

Thank you in advanced!

Which driver did you install? Have you tried the alternative ones suggested in the hints/tips post?

Hey all,

after much more reading, and googling, I found teh solution on the KnoppMyth Wiki.

My xorg.conf file didn't have any information in it about my tv, so with a little editing, I got it all working.

Here is the link for any others if they need the help

Glad you got it fixed! Did you install with the "tv" option? Also, is it an HD or SD set?

When I installed, I do not remember seeing any tv option, although my tv was getting a signal so I could watch the install on it.

Also, it is an old SD set, just wanted to try out Knoppmyth and see how it compared to xbmc, and I have to say it works pretty well, albeit the specs are pretty much the same.

I eventually intend on buying a new computer with a hauppauge card and an hd tv and running knoppmyth on it.

The "tv" option isn't something you select. When the install starts, there's a prompt at the very very start, and you can just hit enter or you can type "tv" and hit enter and it will do the installation with tv out settings.

This is covered in the R5.5. Hints under Phase 1, #1.2

When you boot from the CD it brings up a boot screen which allows you to enter boot options, aka "cheat codes", You'll see a BIOS message that says something like "Boot from CD:" then a KnoppMyth splash screen with a "boot:" prompt at the bottom. You type the boot options there and hit [Enter]. You can also hit the [F2] or [F3] keys to see more option information.
