Hey everyone. I had been using KnoppMyth with absolutely no issues up until recently. Something odd has occurred and I cannot explain it. I did absolutely NOTHING to cause it, as far as I know... except, of course, reboot the machine.

When my machine boots up, it doesn't really start any of its hardware-related daemons and complains about files in /lib not existing. Ethernet doesn't start, my two WinTV PVR cards don't start, nothing. Everything had been working perfectly and the machine had been up for a few days straight before I had to shut it down and then start it up again later, only to encounter this issue.

It's hard for me to get more specific with the errors because they are not reported in dmesg, but maybe someone has an idea of what I should do to remedy this. I really don't think I did anything and I don't run the machine as root anyway, so what may be the issue?

Thanks so much for any help!

Boot from the and fsck the partitions. Worse cause scenario hopfully you can run mythbackup and reinstall.

also you should be able to get the errors from /var/log/messages

I booted from the KnoppMyth R4V2 CD and quit to the command prompt and running "fsck /dev/hda1" (and then onto my other partitions) immediately reports that it is clean without doing any hard checking. My partitions are ext3 so I think this is normal.

Is there any more thorough method of partition checking I should try? Another fsck command?

Thanks for your help!

By the way, in response to Xsecrets, I could not find the /lib error messages in /var/log/messages either. It simply complains about files in /lib/modules missing, among other places in /lib.

I think I solved the problem.

I was able to catch the /lib errors as they passed by and it seemed to complain about modules.cfg missing in /lib/modules/extra. It seemed /lib/modules/extra didn't exist, so I linked it to my kernel-2.4.xxx folder. That fixed the issue.

Now, why this just came up now, I have no idea...
