hi,

my problem with KnoppMyth now:

(hardware: Piii, 500 Mhz, 386 Mb ram, CRT 14" monitor,
Technisat Skystar 2 DVB-S card, connected to LNB)

after startup of the computer with knoppmyth r5e50 installed:

in the mythtv screen :
> manage recordings
> schedule recordings
> manual schedule

in the 'manual recording scheduler' screen:
channel is preset to an existing satellite channel
(28106 (ARD) das Erste)
date is set to the actual date,

in 'time' i choose a time short ahead,
'duration': 1 minute (=test purpose only)
'title': i give in a title 'test ard'

'set recording options'
on 'select recording schedule' is make visible
'record only this showing',

then save settings and go back with 'esc' key

after that i go to 'upcoming recordings', there my coming
recording is listed.
as the recording starts, color changes to red.
after the minute, the screen changes to 'you have not scheduled
any program to be recorded'.

the recording seems to have ended.

when i go then to
media library > watch recordings
i come in the screen 'select a recording to watch' , here my 'test ard'
is listed.

when i select this line to show, i get a little screen-message:
'test ard (manual record)
date ...'
'the file for this recording can not be found'

and a button 'ok'

NOTE: in the left bottom corner of the screen i see a: yellow 'icon' RIP....

Q: has anyone a suggestion what is going wrong, and what i must do to repair (please detailed)??

thanks,
rob

You need to post the section of your /var/log/myth/mythbackend.log file around where the recording takes place.

Bruce,

here it is:

## wasn't this the info you needed?
it's all logged around the time of the 'recording' i did.
for myself i cannot see any cause in this log.

but maybe you are digging in old hardware to be able to reproduce my errors.. :P

Sorry, I don't have any satellite hardware.

Right, I'm assuming you've carried out the following:
Set up for PAL and europe-west.
Set up your card for DVB.
Created a Video Source.
Attached your Video Source to your DVB card, and scanned for channels.
Went into the Channel Editor, set up Channel numbers (if required) and updated other info (if required).

I can't see any obvious errors (expect for the deletion one, of course).
Have you created an "empty" Video source with no grabber (no EIT or on line one)?
I can't think of anything obvious at the moment, the only thing I can ask, is there anything in the log file between 11:26:00.984 and 11:53:21.381?

hi Bruce,

to make things easily to communicate i have put a series of pictures on
http: / / members.lycos.nl / driepoot99 / knoppmyth /
it's a re-done setup (same setup was present) to make the pictures.
read what.txt first to see my hardware.

as an addition: most settings were the default ones; ifconfig in a terminal gives 192.168.0.12 for the machine, but in setup it is on 127.0.0.1 (default)
but as there is no channel list loadable from the net, maybe this does not matter...

and well: the machine is connected to the internet (lan, with router and adsl to the world)

hope this makes something clear to you before i am running mad from knoppmyth

Thanks for the pictures, that probably required a lot of effort.
I can't see anything wrong with the setup, all the settings appear to be OK, you're picking up the channel list OK.
The only three suggestions I have are (I don't think these will help in your current situation, but may help, if you manage to get this working)
In the Recorder Options Increasing the DVB card tuner delay.
In EIT Scanner Options select Cross Source EIT.
Because your machine is slow, I would recommend disabling commercial detection here.

It might be worthwhile for you sending a Private Message to kwbolte for assistance, as we seem to have come up against the limits of my knowledge and it appears he has managed to get his DVB-S card to work.
Sorry that I cannot be of more help.

Bruce S.

## thank you VERY much for your willingness to help..
i really appreciate that !

i found some new facts in the problem we are talking about.

i had discovered 'watch tv' produces *.mpg files in the directory /myth/tv.
with on the * location a number with a "code" for date, time and some more.

but more strange: these files have size = 0 (zero).
when i try to play such a recording KM returns the pics I showed in my picture range (one of the last ones).

i did the following: i transferred a known film.mpg file from another computer (short film with sound) to the /myth/tv directory, and renamed it to one of the recently recorded "zero size" files, and at the same time deleted that 'zero size file' as KM had recorded it.

so now I have a real (non-zero size) mpg file, with the name of a recorded one.

when (after a reboot) i watch the recorded file in KM, i get:
the film full screen, without drop-outs !
the film with sound !
GOOD

same as i could play the film on my windows computer (where it originally came from) in VLC (a windows-player program).

so the problem doesn't appear to be the videocard, processor or memory, but there is a problem with the recording: only a name.mpg file is stored (in myth/tv), with size ZERO....

anybody (maybe Bruce) who can give some light here...
(hope other guys are reading this topic too)

thanks,
rob

As I said it might be worthwhile sending a message to kwbolte using private messaging as It appears to be something DVB-S specific.
Was it you that was able to watch using kaffeine & VLC but had problems with myth? It might be worthwhile trying those applications out to see if you can receive a TV picture.

## I did so shortly after you suggested it for the first time.
kwbolte seems to be busy, as i didn't receive an answer from him yet.

will try your other suggestions.
