I'm trying to get mythbrowser installed, and discovered that the build of mythtv used on knoppmyth is a different set of debs from the ones on http://dijkstra.csh.rit.edu/~mdz/debian ... le/mythtv/ and so I can't just install mythbrowser, I need to install all of the mythtv debs from there (which, sadly, don't conflict with the existing ones, leading me to have to manually mess with things...) Those debs are current, and include everything... why weren't they used? If it was a matter of install location, symlinks would have worked nicely, and made an easily upgradable install. Any plans to fix this for the next version? I know they must have been used in the past, since the sources.list has this location commented out. What's the history here? |

The debs included w/ KnoppMyth are current. The current release od MythTV is 0.14, this is what is included with KnoppMyth. The first release of KnoppMyth did include Matt's excellent debs. If memory serves when 0.12 was release, Matt didn't produce debs(R4). I produced debs(via checkinstall) for i586 and i686. As you why MythBrowser isn't included, search the forum. |

What sort of compatibility are you looking for? The myth module Matt produce's are dependant on his MythTV deb. |

Uninstall the debs included with Knoppmyth, install matt's debs and not have to make any other changes for everything work. So far (I'm still downloading as I type) it looks like both end up installed, and I'm thinking conflicts, file location issues, etc... |

Btw, just to be 100% clear: I think you've done a great job with Knoppmyth. I was able to get it running out of the box within an hour. What I'm doing now is far from the average user stuff. Seth |

if you uninstalled the existing deb's then no they are not both installed, however I suppose with some tweaking cesman could make the knoppmyth debs conflict with the other ones. The reason to not go back to matt's debs is he doesn't have i586/i686, and not sure if he has native lirc either, but haven't checked that. |

What you're looking for is difficult. KnoppMyth is based on Debian unstable which is what Matt builds his debs for, which I used at one point. But as unstable changes and/or Matt updates his deb's, dependencies change and can break the system(that is why MythBrowser isn't included). This is another reason I decided to build my own debs. While in theory you could remove my debs and install Matt's and have everything work, dependencies required by Matt's debs can break the system. I'd like to think of KnoppMyth as an appliance. I'd like to get it to the point where the only thing I release are debs for new MythTV releases. |
