Post subject:  Via OB video with Offset question

When i watch MYth on a TV The screen is Off center but a Big 8 inch black bar on the side and a 4 inch black bar on the bottom.

I know that Myth has a GUI offset but this doesnt actualy move the picture over just the gui. Most of you will know what i mean by that. I think i remeber somewhere reading a post on adjusting the offset on a nvidia card, But mine is a Via. Also i noted that it has that bar on the bios screen so it is off on the bios load as well. Does anyone know if i can fix this? Can anyone find the thread relating to the Nvidia problem. I must be searching for the wrong phrase.

Thanks guys.

It's called overscan, and with nvidia cards you fix it in one of a couple of ways neither of which will help you at all, because they are nvidia specific. you will need to find out how via handles overscan for their tvout on linux. I have never used a via card personally, so I have no idea.

thanks xsecrets for the info. Quick question i have been reading about via overscan and it soulds like overscan enlarges the picture from all sides. effectively zooming in. I need to keep the picture the same size but move it to the left 8 inches. can overscan (in nvidia at least) leave the picture the same size but move it to the left?

nope overscan doesn't do that. there is a utility called nvtv that can, but only for nvidia cards. seems really odd that it is the right size and that far off. Unless you have like a 10' tv and 8" really isn't that much.
