I've been running R5F1 and I've had some issues with it that after a couple weeks I still can't seem to resolve on my own.

The most annoying one is that at least once a day the two frontends will freeze and need to be restarted. Often, but not always, there is a message on the screen that the connection to the backend has been lost. I can ssh into the box in question and kill the mythfrontend process and manually restart it and everything is hunky dory again.

My configuration is that I have one backend in the basement with all my inputs and a 500G drive. I have two nearly identically configured frontends in the family room and bedroom. Both seem to lock up on a daily basis. Sometimes when otherwise idle and other times that seem to lock it up are hitting the skip fwd button too fast.

I only ran R5E50 for a short time so I don't know if that release had the same issues or if it's a specific R5F1 issue.

It happened again overnight and this time I caught the mythfrontend.log just before it died:

At some point it lost the connection to the backend but the backend seems to be fine the entire time.

I am having the same problem. My frontend and backend are on the same server so it can't be a network issue. I can't figure whats going on for the life of me.

I was not able to find a resolution to the problem. My backend is not used as a frontend since it's in the basement on an equipment rack. However when I VNC into it the frontend is always running and has not yet failed.

My two frontends which are in different rooms seem to lose the connection to the backend and the frontend application hangs. This happens every 1-2 days. They never go more than 2 days before locking up.

I should note that in my case the frontend application hangs, not the system itself. I can SSH into the box, kill the frontend application and restart it and everything is fine again.

Until I resolve this issue I should probably just create a cron job to check the status of the frontend and kill it and restart as necessary. I hate to do stuff like that and would really like to solve the root problem.

Several things spring to mind, but you need to list components... othrwise we're groping in the dark.
