Hi, Pretty much as above. I know MythWelcome can be used on a backend server to conserve power and turn the backend off between and back on again to record. Is it possible to be able to boot a diskless frontend by waking the backend up via the Wakeup-on-LAN setting in the BIOS? Regards Chris |

What you are posting is somewhat confusing. Do you want to wake your backend from a diskless frontend via WoL? If so, it should be possible. http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/122 Should help... |

Thanks for the reply and the link. You are correct in your assumption I am trying to get my backend to wakeup from a diskless via WoL. I can only appologise for the gibberisness of the original post, I can only blame myself for a slightly dyslexic disposition and the missus yelling at me to do something else. I'll post my results of this endevour. |

Hey Cecil, I followed the guide that you linked. (Thanks again.) Unfortunately I can't get my current test frontend to ping the backend at boot. When I power on, my frontend looks for a dhcp connection and if the backend isn't running, it just sits there and eventually times out. The frontend for reference is a Dell Optimax GX240. It's my first foray into using an Intel processor for years. Compared to the Abit BIOS of my other rigs the Dell BIOS is very basic. Incidentally, I spoke to our ICT support guy at work and he thought you needed an always-on server to boot over a network. |
