I'm giving up on KnoppMyth. The whole process has been extremely painful. I have no less than forty (yes I said forty) bookmarks directly related to helping me install and configure knoppmyth. And I know that all I have to do is configure the serial tuner control output, however I not convinced that it will work properly. I realize this is freeware and I do appreciate everyone’s help. For the admin please don’t delete all of someone’s posts for a single infraction. I have been on this forum for a month and a half there is only one thread left. I think that information would have been helpful to someone. The answers although available are not always obvious I posted only when I felt it was necessary. So please try to help the new people without being mean. Comments like "you should look before you ask a question", is not necessary. People like me have been working diligently (sometimes all night long) and would like a little reassurance, that it does work and we are on the right track. (A suicide prevention hot line wouldn't hurt either.) All kidding aside. A note to people who help. I thank you and ask you to remember this is not a schoolyard. It is a classroom and you are the teachers. Thank you goodbye |

I have to admit I am somewhat surprised at your peevishness considering you have only written four messages on this forum -- including this "goodbye" message. Your situation as far as I can tell is that you have some sort of odd network setup where all channels are routed into channel 19 on your TV set. Because of this, MythTv must tune your DTV box over some sort of network connection. This means special scripts and/or hardware to tune the DTV box. Nobody, but NOBODY handles this kind of situation "out of the box". If you bought a general purpose Tivo and connected it to your system, guess what? It wouldn't tune your DTV. The strength of MythTv is that at least you can modify it to handle such a situation -- but such mods are difficult for beginners. MythTv is not for everyone. There are some systems in use today that are just too special-purpose to be handled easily. If you are not up to doing the scripting that is needed, then MythTv probably is not for you. (But as an aside, try not to throw firebombs when exiting a forum. You never know when you might become interested in MythTv again, and your past messages will hinder your acceptance into the group.) |

peeb, if you're still reading, I feel your pain. Its been a struggle to get things working, and when something breaks its a struggle to get it working again. You have some additional complications since all your TV comes in on one channel. I searched your posts and some were time stamped around midnight/1am. That is the absolute worst time to work on a Myth box. I know, because that's when I have to do it. It is the cause of many problems for me. Keep that in mind that you can't think the same at that hour. Also remember this is a hobbyist project. They reply you got to search for certain words is appropriate in this place because we don't know all your specifics, and we are peers. We know what we know and that's it. It is possible to receive specific detailed support if you purchase a "Dragon" which is a commercially sold mythtv setup. Sorry this isn't what you want to hear, but really most of us are people just like you trying to fumble our way through this. I also own a replayTV, and Windows MCE. You might want to consider one of those options. Good luck to you. |
