Post subject:  Backing up .iso rips?

Hi,

Been struggling with this for a few days and have searched and found threads like this: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=13300&highlight=growisofs

I know that from a terminal I want to run
Code:
 growisofs -dvd-compat= -Z /dev/dvd=/myth/video/HOWLS_MOVING_CASTLE.iso

Once I run this command (and I've a dual layer disc in the DVDdrive) I get
Quote:
:-[ SEND DVD+R DOUBLE LAYER RECORDING INFORMATION failed with SK=5h/ASC=26h/ACQ=00h]: Input/output error

Is this due to 'pinapple' issues around ripping commercially available DVDs?

Is there a way around this?

I've tried this by setting the speed like this and stuff:
Code:
 growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=1 -Z /dev/dvd=/myth/video/HOWLS_MOVING_CASTLE.iso

and by setting
Code:
hdparm -u0 -d1 -k1 -K1 /dev/dvd
as suggested here: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=15894&highlight=growisofs

Thanks

Appears to be a problem specific to the LG drives (Damn, and I just bought one!)

See http://www.mail-archive.com/cdwrite@oth ... 10442.html for some possible patches/workarounds.

Mmm, that IS a pain. I've several LG DVD burners and they are good. Fortunately I have at least 1 Sony DVD burner I can swap into my boxen. Will try and report back.

slowtolearn,
Thank you very much, it WAS the LG drive. Swapped it out for a Sony one and ... ISO burn fine. A bit slow 2.5x but burns!
Technology eh... meant to make life easier...
