Sorry if I missing someting obvious, but how can I check what versions of mythtv, are in the various releases of knoppmyth, particularly each new Knoppmyth release as it comes out. I don't know what's in R5F1 for example.
I suppose the development community is well aware of the version, but I could not find it on the web page or in the changelog, for example.

Yes, my post above says I could not find it in the changelog - the latest entry says only
"Updated MythTV"
To what ?

Yeah I knew, or at least assumed, that
So, is there any way to find out what that was?
Not being a developer or anything, I don't know, but wouldn't there be somewhere in mythtv, either in a file, or in an "About" screen or something, where the version of mythtv can be ascertained?

Cecil links to the hints posts in his announcements, I point people to the hints everyday, my signature block (attached to every posting in the last 3 months or so) contains a link to it, ... I don't know how much more obvious we can make it.
If you are installing or asking a question about a current version of KnoppMyth, and you haven't already read or at least found the appropriate hints thread, you're just not paying attention..
As a matter of fact, the response to one of your earlier posts even links to the hints... http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=92043

Well I did pre-apologise that I might be missing something obvious.

TJC - everyone appreciates all the work you put into this forum, but your posts of late are getting a tad hostile? Lets keep this a friendly forum.
The big advantage knoppmyth has over other distros is that you really dont need to understand the workings of mythtv to get a system up and running. I had no clue about mythtv when i got my first system going. Its obvious to you that this info would be in your hints page, but it may not be so obvious to someone who has just joined the forum and is new to knoppmyth.
For those of us that use the xbmcmythtv frontend its crucial that you match the version of the frontend with the version of mythtv. I have been caught out by this in the past. It would be great if each changelog entry clearly showed wht version of mythtv was included in the release.
Just a suggestion.. I do appreciate all teh hard work you guys put in to KM.
cheers

on the xbmc note... i just noticed that there is no 0.20.1 release of xbmcmythtv. It will be interesting to see how teh 0.20.34 version works with R5F1 when i get my new backend up and running

The issue is fatigue. It isn't that tjc is a hostile person. He wants nothing but the best for the community and as been an invaluable contributor. The problem is, people for whatever reason don't read the information we post to try and make things easy.
This is my greatest issue with dealing with some members of the community. It can be a great drain... Imagine. You create a distro or help to grow that distro. You write docs, etc. because you want the distro to improve and you want to help people. Yet, people ignore to work you do. Trust me, this drives me crazy! I'm sure it does tjc as well.

This can certainly be very frustrating, I agree. Once you've hung around the forum a little, you see a lot of repeated questions. One area we could possibly help cut down on this repeat traffic would be perhaps to post a link to a (Knoppmyth specific support) FAQ on the forum headers? (In addition to the phpBB FAQ). And if possible on the message posting form as well? Anyone who then posts without reading the FAQ deserves a little hostility
I'd be happy to prepare a draft FAQ (assuming there isn't one somewhere already). The best place would probably be the wiki, where it can be improved by everyone.
This probably won't eliminate FAQ's on the forum, but I'm sure it would help...
