nick's reply will fix your problem. at least it did when i had the same problem as you with my leadtek 7300gt agp card.
we both shared the same problem in that the system hanged completely at the nvidia driver install. which meant that i couldnt update the drivers.
my solution was to stick in a different video card and boot from there.. then update the drivers and put the other card back in.. but now i realise that my idea was stupid.
you can hopefully just reboot from the KM cd, and at the prompt asking you to install, check media, etc.. just select enter. this will drop you back to a shell, and you can install the new drivers from there.
also.. R5F27 is out. im downloading it now. i havent seen a complete changelog.. but maybe it will fix both our problems.
also also... what i did.. because i seem to reinstall quite alot is make a ghost of my completed install and setup. i reinstall cause i like to play with things and tend to break it... for me the best way to learn is break.. but im getting off topic.

Thanks for bringing my attention to the new version!! The thing is, after rebooting, it reaches the point where it checks for nVidia driver installation, then it starts flashing and I get the message:
INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
5 minutes later, it flashes again, and I get the same message.. and so on!
Any idea what that means?

If the update doesn't help, this error message has been seen on this forum several times so I'm sure searching for it will throw up some hits...

so do i first install knoppmyth, go through the questions (username and the such) and when it asks for reboot, i do so, till it does freeze, and then reboot from the cd? or do i just reboot from the cd the first time around and never go through the first set of questions?
i want to go through the steps in http://knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page ... diaDrivers but i want to know at what stage i should get to the console to begin with!!
thanks!!

firstly.. i just installed R5F27. it fixed my problem with the video card not been detected, and it may do so for you. the problem is that channel data doesnt work.. i think becuase mythtv 0.20.2 doesnt have tv_grab_au.
so maybe stay away from the latest knoppmyth.
im not an expert.. read some of my questions and you'll realise that. If you're having the same problem as me your system was freezing when knoppmyth checked the nvidia drivers.
you can.. probably.. install km right up to the point when the system hangs. then reboot with the km cd in the drive. at the menu where you select either auto install, manual install.. etc.. select exit. this will drop you back to a shell.
from there. follow the wiki post. which is to firstly disable the current nvidia drivers, then stop x from starting.. then reboot .. (which will reboot you to a point before x starts and give you a shell to work in).. download and install the newer drivers.
if you dont have web access after you reboot with x disabled, then you'll need to download the newer drivers via a different machine and copy them to your myth box via a cd or usb drive or something.

i AM running F27. the problem, i think, is the nvidia driver i seem to need is http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/L ... 1-pkg1.run which is newer, i believe, than what F27 has.
is _au for australia? maybe i won't have that problem (since i'm in the us)? [provided i do manage to configure knoppmyth!!! ]
now back to my problem. i did install km, reboot from the cd, follow the wiki's instructions till the reboot, reboot, remove the cd... it still gets to a point where it says:
INIT: Id "c7" respawning too fast: disabled for 5 minutes
the same story repeating every 5 minutes!!!!
i did read on another thread that it is related to nvidia drivers.. but i don't see what i did wrong following that wiki's instructions!!!
is it still trying to load X? if so, then why? if not, then what's the problem???

yes its just an australian problem.. sorry i was just venting. .. that and i think the sun revolves around sydney.
and yes i think i remember your error happening to me whilst i was updating the nvidia drivers.. i just kept opening other terminals with ctrl alt f2, ctl alt f3 etc.
look at the nvidia site to see which drivers support your gpu. i forget the url.. just type nvidia linux into google.
if you like install the most current drivers rather than the legacy ones. theres heaps of info on the nvidia site and here on how to do it. if with the most appropriate drivers you still get the problem.. then i cant help.. but the forum will have lots of posts.

By the way, I just read a thread by some guy who moved to mythdora and was bitching about KM. so, even if off topic, I still would like to say what I thought when I read that. I personally don't mind people choosing whatever works for them. But I just wanted to mention that I did try to go with mythdora and it (of course!) hung at the exact same place (when X is launched to configure mythtv). I posted a question about that at their forum and while I got answers here in minutes, I'm still waiting for answers on that forum! Just another point in favor of km so, even though i haven't finished setting things up yet, i'd still like to thank Cecil for his efforts! i mean i have a "small" driver problem and look how much time it's taking to resolve.. now imagine how much time it takes Cecil to work on ALL the other problems, resolve them, test them, resolve the new ones, test them, etc... Chapeau Cecil!

If you determine that neither driver version (main or legacy) included in R5F27 works for your video device, please send me the following data, and I can make sure to implement an exception for your devices so they (eventually) get the right driver versions:
1) human-readable name of video device (e.g. AGP GeForce 6200 TC)
2) PCI ID of card (if you just send me the output of 'lspci -vv' and 'lspci -mn' I can figure it out)
3) driver version you needed to use
The process that chooses which version of the driver to install makes the decision based on tables published by nVidia, but they're not always definitive. That's why there's an exceptions.txt file that stores customized mappings of PCI IDs to driver versions.

Here are the answers to your questions (if I understood them correctly!): 1) GeForce 7025 2) It's an onboard card. The motherboard is BIOSTAR TForce TF7025-M2. I don't quite know how to answer your question in this case! I can search more, if this doesn't help. Please let me know! 3) Going to nVidia's Driver Download site, choosing Display Drivers, then GeForce 7 Series, then Linux x86, I end up with this page: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp ... 14.11.html which has a link to the driver. It is this driver that I need, isn't it? [newegg reviewers of the mobo said the latest driver was needed for the video card to play nice with linux..] Another related question concerns the onboard LAN. A reviewer said that he got it to work with Linux like so: Jim wrote: Getting the LAN to work in Linux was the biggest problem, but Realtek finally posted a driver on their site www.realtek.com.tw/downloads. You need to compile driver r8168 (from download) and remove the stock kernel r8169 driver.
I didn't get to that point yet, but this is an anticipated problem. Any words on how to solve this one too (while we're talking about necessary updates to drivers), would be great.
Thanks again!!!
