I'm considering the possibility of no longer producing XvMC debs.

well I currently don't use xvmc, and don't see myself using it in the immediate future, but I am concerned that when I get a pchdtv card it will be necessary.

Currently it seems to be more of a source of problems than anything else.

Sorry to disturb the clear results of the poll

I do use XvMC. For me it's the only way to have acceptable results on my Celeron 700.
I will try to get my PVR350's TV-out going so maybe I won't need XvMC support in the future...

If it's not too much of a burden, please leave it in.

I too use it for my frontend machine - tbird 800. It really makes a difference.

I'd have to experiment but I'd be worried about HD display without it.

I don't use it due to the lack of deinterlacing and the black/white EPG, but in general I like the idea of hardware-assisted decoding... why burden the CPU if you don't need to? I guess until they work out the drawbacks, though, I vote no.

You get one or two occasionally, but it's really not that bad.

hmm that's odd. It VERY noticeable on my machine, however I swear back in the R4 days I could use xvmc and the filters and didn't have a problem.

Works well for me for almost everything. I record at a relatively high bit rate and I think that helps. I'd like to see it stay in even though I have enough processor power to deal with it if you want to remove it.

Thanks for all your hard work.

I managed to get my PVR350 TV-out working. The picture quality is smoother compared to the MX440 TV-out. However playing back DivX content needs more CPU power because either the ivtvdev Xserver doesn't enable Xv controls (yet???) in hardware or the PVR350 doesn't support them at all. So I'm back with the MX440 TV-out and XvMC....

OT: Does anyone know if Xv controls can be done in hardware at all by the PVR350? I could only find references to the same question when looking for it on the net, no answers.

Have you tried posting to the ivtv mailing list?

I used to use XvMC, until I realized what a horrible picture quality it resulted in on my GeForce4 MX440 (at least compared to software decoding and kernerldeint). Now I keep XvMC turned off.

However, many people do use older hardware as front ends, since those are often easier to run more quietly. And those people probably greatly appreciate the improved performance of hardware-accelerated decoding. So I'd vote to leave it in future releases.

well from recent news I would now recommend some testing of the new nvidia drivers and including xvmc again, as the new drivers should now allow for interlaced output that would work well with xvmc, however I have not tested any of this myself yet, but if everything works as reported I would like to see xvmc left in.
