Anyone got one working? I got tv_grab_au, and can use it from the commandline, but every time that mythtv-setup tries to call it, it tries to reconfigure and hangs. e.g.

/usr/bin/perl -w /usr/bin/tv_grab_au --config-file /home/mythtv/.mythtv/NigelGrab.xmltv --configure

I assume that this tv_grab_au is not interacting with mythtv-setup correctly, but I cannot think of a way to debug it.

(I am so close to having a working MythTv server. Probably just this one hurdle to go :-)

I've had this same problem. As you're probably aware, if you run this tv_grab_au command in a terminal you'll find that it is waiting for input, hence it appears to hang within mythtv-setup (but it doesn't really hang). I'm guessing that other tv_grab_* don't prompt for input, hence they don't (appear to) hang. I'm still looking for a solution to this problem too. :(

when i set up mine, i jumped out of the mythtv-setup into the background console screen ( the white one that is sitting in the background) and there it was the prompt waiting for me. I just entered the service i needed and the state and channels I wanted and it set it all up and then I jumped back into mythtv-setup and exited from that. Ran mythfilldatabase and all is good.

Hope this helps.

One thing I found, if I run mythbackend from a session from my windows box it shows the same output as the background one on the myth box. So you can also enter the data in there instead of jumping back and forth on the myth machine.

I forgot that I had started this thread. This is how I got it to work:

1. Install tv_grab_au:
Code:
tar  -xzvf tv_grab_au-0.6
sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/xmltv/tv_grab_au
sudo cp channel_ids /usr/share/xmltv/tv_grab_au
sudo mv tv_grab_au.1.gz /usr/local/man/man1
sudo cp tv_grab_au /usr/bin

2. Optional - test the grabber:
Code:
tv_grab_au --configure

3. MythTV configuration:
Code:
mythtv-setup
[Add a Video source (I called mine SydneyFreeToAir).
Alt-tab then enter to go to the xterm. Enter your city
(Sydney is 2) and Free to air (4), then hit enter to add each channel.
Right-click -> Lower in the xterm's title to get back to the setup program.
Input connections, connect Television to SydneyFreeToAir,
and give a valid initial channel (I chose 7).
   Now exit]
mythfilldatabase
sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend restart
