Thanks for the updated script. It is different than what I was using. Did any of the older scripts have any bizarre side effects?

Nope. They just weren't as smart and produced more false "busy" indications.

As a side note, I never checked to see if ffmpeg was stuck somewhere in top...

I am currently testing/tweaking brfransen's myth2xvid script for my particular setup.

So I think I am going to try using that script instead of messing with myt2xvid3 anymore.
