I recently installed KM R5F27 as a remote frontend on some older hardware (Epox 8RDA3+). I believe the video card is an FX5500.

If I Select KnoppMyth, Shut Down from the main menu, then I think I hear the hard drive spin down, but the computer basically just freezes with the frontend still displayed on the TV. I cannot do anything from the computer, I can't ssh into it, but I can ping it.

I don't see any errors in the logs, and if I select restart instead of shutdown, it works normally. If I open an xterm window and as root type
Code:
shutdown -h now
it shuts down normally. I have removed mythbackend and mysql from auto startup, and I have installed and auto-start athcool.

I did disable athcool before trying to shutdown normally and it still locked up. I didn't see anything in the wiki or forums similar to this, so I will gladly check out any links if you guys have some. Thanks.

Might be an ACPI BIOS bug. You might upgrade your BIOS.

Does a plain 'shutdown now' or 'poweroff' work any differently
than 'shutdown -h now'?

Have you waited a long time (like overnight) to see if it ever
shuts down completely?

You might wait a long time, reset, boot up a Knoppix CD,
mount the root and look in KM's /var/log directory:
Code:
ls -lrt /km-mounted-here/var/log
and look in the recent log files to see what the last thing
written there was.

Hey Cliff

Code:
poweroff
works like
Code:
shutdown -h now
but
Code:
shutdown now
does not work. In fact, one thing I neglected to mention was that when I issue the command
Code:
shutdown -h now
it floods the xterm with:
root@mythfrontend:/home/mythtv#
root@mythfrontend:/home/mythtv#
root@mythfrontend:/home/mythtv#
root@mythfrontend:/home/mythtv#

until X shuts down. It does the same thing with the other two commands, except with
Code:
shutdown now
I think it keeps flooding the xterm window and I am unable to do anything else. I have not left it to run for more than 15 minutes to find out if it will eventually shutdown.

I'll try to give that other test a try tonight.

I get that too. I am guessing it is nornal.

Good luck,
