Post subject:  VLC instead of "Internal" player for video-- confi
I have been ripping some (legal) files off some DVD's b/c my daughter slimes the disks and beats them up horribly. Problem is, some don't rip nicely as ISO, so I'm using another utility to get an .m4v or .mp4 file of the main title instead, and moving them into my videos directory. The Internal player I'm using in KnoppMyth version R5F27 causes frontend crash.. I found this link

describing how to use VLC as the video player... but it's an older post, and it mentions editing a file called "~/.vlc/vlcrc" to enable VLC to be full-screen, and use lirc.

I can't find that file anywhere in R5F27.

If I set the options in MythTV's "Utilities/Setup" -> "SetUp" -> "Media Settings" -> "Video Settings" -> "Player Settings" to "vlc file://%s vlc:quit" the frontend WILL launch VNC, but in a small window, and none of the IR keys work in it.

So, 2 questions:
1) Is there a config file for VNC I need to edit in R5F27?
2) Which of the 2 lircrc files do I need to edit for remote control bindings?

I guess the goal is to make VLC the default viewer for video files of all type, since that player seems to handle just about anything. R5F27 has been running so wonderfully, if I can't make this change I'll just live with it the way it is. Thanks very much to the creators and contributors to this project!

You can get vlc in full screen with the -f argument.

According to the VLC FAQ:

Where does VLC store its config file?

Currently, a config file is created on a per user basis (there is no global configuration file). If you modify the available options in VLC and save the new configuration, then a configuration file will be created in your user directory. The precise location of this file depends on the Operating System you are running:

* Linux / Unix: $(HOME)/.vlc/vlcrc
* Mac OS X: HOME/Library/Preferences/VLC
* Windows 95/98/ME: C:\Windows\Application Data\vlc\vlcrc
* Windows XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\vlc\vlcrc
* BeOS: config/settings/vlcrc

And for the LIRC files, if memory serves, those 2 files are symlinked, edit one and you edit the other. I believe it was tjc who wrote up a good explanation on LIRC not too long ago. A search should find it.

Let us know how you make out. I'm a fan of VLC, plays everything I throw at it on my windows box, but never even thought of it in knoppmyth :shock:
