After installing R5.5 on a clean hard disk and completing the setup dialogue I tried to "Watch TV". The front end promptly died. The log file said:

Quote:
2008-08-16 00:10:29.954 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'ivtv' not available.
codec 'None' makes 'opengl,xv-blit,xshm,xlib,' available
, using 'opengl' instead.
2008-08-16 00:10:30.269 GLVid, Error: Fatal error
mythfrontend: main/renderbuffer.c:2153: _mesa_reference_renderbuffer: Assertion
`oldRb->Magic == 0xaabbccdd' failed.

After a bit of research I found that I needed to change the playback decoder (which apparently defaults to ivtv even though I don't have ivtv hardware). So in playback profiles (3/9) I selected CPU-- and edited the first entry (<= 720 576 > 0 0) to select VIA XvMC decoder which fixed the renderer as xvmc-blit (there was no other option).

Then when I tried to WATCH TV the front end again died and the log file reported:

Quote:
2008-08-16 08:23:59.725 VideoOutputXv: Desired video renderer 'xvmc-blit' not available.
codec 'None' makes 'opengl,xv-blit,xshm,xlib,' available
, using 'opengl' instead.

`oldRb->Magic == 0xaabbccdd' failed.

I tried to use VIA XvMC decoder because the mother board includes the VIA CLE-266 chipset which is supposed to support hardware MPEG 2 decode. The motherboard also includes a 1GHz VIA C3 CPU. My tuner is a Leadtek Winfast DTV-2000H.

I have no idea if this is an installation problem (necessary files missing or in wrong place?) or a configuration issue (I'm somehow supposed to know what subset of the renderers options shown in the setup I should choose?) or I'm supposed to apply some magic tweak to one or more files.

The tuner is a hauppauge nova-t

The install ran fine and the backend is apparently also running correctly.
I can schedule recordings and playback does also work just fine.

But as soon as i try to activate live tv the frontend dies.

I also uses VIA XvMC.

Basically same problems as the first poster

Any hints to what to look for to find the difference between live tv and playing recordings ?

There is not many options for recording from DVB sources. I record Normal (all streams) so i thought that playing a recording most be the same as livetv

I have only a single playback profile for anything => 0,0
I've selected VIA XvMC

Thought that it would be used both for live tv and for playing recorded tv.

But i have just discoverede that with default (ffmpeg & xvideo) i can also play live tv ...

Weird - any more pointers to the difference between playing back a recording from a transport stream or playing the same live ?

Hello,
Thought I'd bump this thread as it seems quite a few people have this problem.

Im also running on a VIA platform (EPIA with CN400) and playing a recorded program runs just fine, but watching live-tv fails. If using viaxvmc-vld it crashes the frontend. I also get the error "video renderer "xvmc-blit" not available" in the frontend-log.
Also, mplayer cant seem to find the xvmc either when using that as "-vo".

Now what bugs me is that it works just fine when whatching a recording. Playback profile holds only:
anything => 0,0 -> Via XvMC

so just like the other posts: What is the difference ?
I mean, the recording profile seems to work just fine for the recorded programs when wathcing them so im hesitating to alter this profile.

I'm not an expert at all but it seems to me that XvMC is not "registered globally". By this i mean it works when X boots up and there are no errors in the xorg-log, but as mentioned mplayer cant get xvmc to run and neither can the VideoOutputXV in mythtv.
I've tampered with /usr/X11/XvMCConfig and tried with all the "*XvMC*" libs I could find:
libchromeXvMC
#libviaXvMCPro.so.1
#libXvMC.so.1
#/usr/lib/libXvMC.so.1
#/usr/lib/libviaXvMC.so.1

Please help :)

Update:
Apparently this thread sheds some light on the subject.
http://mythdora.com/?q=node/3401

I tried to build the openchrome driver after reading the above thread but due to another error where dpkg has some trouble with libdrm-dev (headers gets mixed up with the linux-libc-dev headers) I cant get past this :roll:
libdrm-dev bugs when building openchrome
