I'm curious if anyone knows the best way to setup a master/slave backend in R5.5? I have always followed the instructions in the wiki here: http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=SlaveBackendHowTo

However, I understand that this new version "auto detects" backends on the network, but do they share each other's recordings by default? Are the NFS configurations still necessary? :?

It's pretty easy - I just got my slave backend working. I did an auto install of R5.5, then mythtv-setup automatically detected the master backend on the network. I also removed mysql from the slave but I don't know if that is necessary. Don't cross mount anything with NFS, the backends know about the storage on the others automatically. All of the recordings show up on all machines.

The NFS mounts, in the past, were necessary for MythGallery (Photos) and MythMusic. Is that no longer necessary?

I have one MBE/FE combo, and 3 FE only machines. When I update to R5.5, will the FE only machines auto-detect the remote BE the same way that a slave BE does? Will this also remove the need for NFS between all the boxes?

That would really make setup much simpler...

Thanks -

Allan

Hey Hari. Can you clarify

I did a clean autoinstall of R5.5 on two systems and nothing automagically setup the nfs, exports or anything. I had to follow the steps for SlaveBEHowto and it works now.

Sadly, that is still necessary.

What if you want your SBE to use storage space on your MBE.

The scheduler seems to have setup most programs to record on my SBE, yet it has nearly no HD space, the MBE has a couple TB though.

I'm curious about this as well. In the past I've just linked the /myth/tv folder to the nfs share on my mbe, but is there another way to do it from within the mythtv program?
