If I want to add DVD's or music to the MythTV center, do I *have* to rip everything with the MythTV gui, or can I pre-rip my stuff, then copy it over to the mythtv box? |

copy music to /myth/music or video's to /myth/video and depending on your settings they'll automatically be seen, or you'll need to run a scan from the media settings |

I'm guessing this means that I need to share out the folders on the mythbox. Any suggestions on how to do this? |

Thank you! Would someone be able to tell me how to get to the CLI of the Myth box? I read about "XTerm" but I don't know what that is or how to use it. |

alt-x will open an xterm window for you to type commands. you could also ctrl-alt-F1 to get right down to a text mode command consol. ctrl-alt-F7 to get back. or even do it remotely http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=RemoteAccessfromWindows couple other handy ones. alt-1 start mythbackend alt-2 stop mythbackend alt-3 restart mythbackend alt-s run mythtv-setup alt-m run mythfrontend |

I just droped in a avi with xvid compression and the audio plays, but the video won't. Is there somewhere where I have to tell MythTV to use xvid or divx? Also, once the avi starts (with no video), I can't seem to exit out, I have to reboot. When I request a thumbnail to be made, mythtv does make one fm the video, so I think mythtv can render the video, I think I'm just doing something wrong. |
