Power blinked to the house one day and ever since I have a couple problems I can't seem to sort out. 1st when the system boots up mythfrontend doesn't start automatically, I have to crank it up manually. The backend and mysql are all running fine.

2nd is screen blanking. I've run configure_xscreensaver and disabled it but acpi or dpms or something else is still causing the screen to blank out after about 5 minutes. I've run a few commands like setterm -blank 0 and xset -dpms and thought I had it but it comes back when rebooted. I'm wondering not only how to stop it but what might have caused it in the first place.

I'd boot off the CD and fsck /. All else fails, backup and auto upgrade.

figured it out! When the power blinked it made a shadow copy of ./fluxbox/apps as ~apps. And the new file did not have the [startup] entries at the top, which include the xset command and TA-DAAAA ... the knoppmyth-run command. I kept digging and finally spotted the extra file and I originally thought it might be a nano backup file, but when I opened it I spotted the startup commands that were missing in the active file.
