Hello All,
I have been running R5.5 for a while now and have been pretty happy but there is one issue that has bugged me (no pun intended :) ). When I try and run an encode to either iPod video or to Xvid using mythweb and jobs, the system never successfully finishes the encode. It does not even starts to encode the file. I have done a completely fresh auto install and have only applied the patch that is described in this thread - http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18518&highlight=nuvexportwhich did not seem to make any difference.

The following is from the mythbackend.log file.

I can run nuvexport on its own and that works. But if I grab the command that is in the log file and try and run it, it fails. So the main issue is that Nuvexport says it can not find the show at that time.

I will looking around different forums to try and find a solution and I came across some postings about time and date issues. So I started poking around ant there is a very interesting thing that I noticed. When I run the nuvexport as a standalone the time that the programme thinks is something like 16 hours before. So I think I have a time zone or something similar a little off somewhere. I am hoping someone can either point me in the right direction or has had the same issue and worked out how to fix it. I am in Australia / Sydney and have set the time zones correctly. I even set the time zone in the php.ini files just in case it was the issue. I had this working in other releases and I really miss this feature.

I would be very grateful if someone could give me any tips on this issue. Thanks.

Regards,
Robert.

I've not use nuvexport in a long time. Is --path where it is suppose to dump the show or where the show is located?

Hello Cecil,
As far as I can work out it is where the file to dumped too after the encode.

Regards,
Robert.

Cannot say I transcode to xvid or ipod... Have you queried on the mythtv-users mailing list?

I am having the same problem since upgrading to R5.5. As mentioned, it appears to be a known MythTV issue... there is a thread here: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/m ... lat#361943

I tried all the instructions on the referenced wiki page including upgrading nuvexportm but am still getting the error. nuvinfo can find the program but nuvexport purportedly cannot.

Unfortunately it also looks like myth2ipod is discontinued. All of the "solutions", including the thread above, say to try a newer script called mythexport (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythExport). I couldn't install it per the instructions however. apt-get choked on libmyth-perl, and I'm not an expert on resolving package issues.

Can't find any references to mythexport on this forum, but it sounds promising. Any word on whether it can be made to work with KM?

It should work. MythExport is just a PERL script. Everything needed should be already included with the exception of Atomic Parsley.

I was looking into this too, as ffmpeg seems to be taking its time with my ipod conversions.

I too am seeing the libmyth-perl stopping my install. Is this a confilicting package we need to stay away from? I did a quick search and do not see a simple source that I can grab it from so I was not sure.

Thanks!

Walter

I started having myth2ipod issues as soon as I upgraded to R5.5. I am doing this from memory so I may have some of the details, but not the whole output etc...

I ran myth2ipod from the command line and got an error warning me about running nuvexport as root and that this was a bad idea (I got this same message whether I was running myth2ipod as root or mythtv) and that I needed to hit enter to continue. If I hit enter, everything works great and the mp4 file is created. [edit]Now it is going to make a liar out of me. I remoted in to check and it now executes as mythtv from the command line without the message. I should be able to finish this export in the next couple of minutes.[/edit]

The command I was running is:
myth2ipod -cut /myth/tv 1009_20090129220100.mpg

As long as I am running this from the command line, it is possible to make this work; however, when I run it from the frontend, the backend status tells me that the export finished (even though it failed).

Following the instructions here:
http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18518&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=myth2ipod&start=0

I was able to get it working. Followed the instructions provided by s1148625, but went ahead and copied the commands into notepad before pasting them into the terminal (I find that copying and pasting off of a webpage sometimes results in odd char's).

thanks,

I've been having problems with getting this patch to work. It fails in several different ways depending on how I create the file. I'm sure it is something I am doing wrong.

Could you direct me to or give me some instruction on how to create this file?

Thanks

No luck with getting mythexport to work (after many hours of trying) so I went back to trying to get myth2ipod/nuvexport to work and have found out what caused my original problem. In summary, the database entry for the Default storage group was missing.

After noticing nuvexport stopped at around 75% when scanning for recordings I went into the script and found that nuvexport rejects any file without a local_path, presuming it's stored remotely instead. Despite everything being local this was not getting set for any recordings made since I moved to R5.5.

I naively tried to bypass the check but that didn't work as a lot of other info was also missing, so at that point I figured maybe there was a database problem. After some poking around I found that the Default group had no entry in the storagegroup table. Since the recordings I brought over from R5F27 are in a different storage group and it always found those, I figured maybe it's doing a join to that table. Sure enough after going into setup and re-adding the path, the table entry showed up and then nuvexport had no trouble finding the new programs.

Not sure if this will help the OP as the time zone issue might be a different problem, but since I had the same error message I thought I'd share in case anyone else runs into it.

Of course in the original attempt to solve this I naively upgraded (and hence toasted) my ffmpeg and its libraries via apt-get so now I'm trying to sort that out...

Finally got it working! I'd forgotten to redo the termcap patch, then finally I had to edit the ffmpeg flags per this thread: http://knoppmyth.net/phpBB2/posting.php ... e&p=118381

jorin - Did you try getting the patch from the original Ubuntu forums thread? IIRC the one posted here didn't work for me either, but the original did. Also make sure something's not converting the spaces to tabs when you save it.
