We have just got an 19" widescreen LCD tv mounted on the bedroom wall. At the moment i just have an xbox (xbmc) on the floor under it to watch tv on through xbmcmythtv script. My wife is not happy. She prefers we not have another frontend in the bedroom. What are my options? Our lounge room where a frontend sits is about 15 m from the bedroom. The options i thought of was 1. AV sender - Attach an av sender to the Frontend and hook it up to the lcd that way. Im looking at a cocoon which has a remote contorl sender aswell. 2. Have a spliter for my Composite and sound out from my video card and have one set of cable to the lounge room tv and one set of cables to the lcd tv in the bedroom. Im not sure then how i would change channels. Is anyone doing this. Whats the best way without using a computer. |

I don't think there is a solution. I know that the video quality using a KVM degrades over distances, and I have seen the expensive ones that use CAT5e that claim they work over 100 meters and they look MUCH worse, plus everyone of them that I have seen has failed after 8-10 months of use. You might just have to get a small form factor frontend such as Cecil's atomic ant in there. That machine can be built wo/ a turner or keyboard for under $400 by the way (newegg pricing). |

You could use an HDMI splitter, a well-shielded cable, and an RF remote extender. Of course you wouldn't really be able to use both TV's at once this way. At 15m I don't see analog cabling as a very good option. I've also heard of / seen a couple setups where all the hardware is in a closet and only the HDMI cable is brought out to the TV. Again an RF remote extender is used. Of course you need to have enough space in your closet for a PC and be able to keep it cool. Martian |

Good plan until you see the price of recycling the old one. 
Is it an HDTV? I've got an SD in the kitchen, and I've run an RG-59 from the dish300 ANT-OUT controlled by my mythbackend up to the kitchen. Then I set up a webpage and a set of perl scripts on the backend so she can surf to it and change channels as long as the backend isn't recording. Of course, once I have the time I plan to put a cheap frontend in the kitchen instead. I'll need that once I switch to dishHD anyway. |

LOL thats pretty funny.... I normally follow all Cecils advice...The problem is that my wife would fight for custody of our mythtv setup.... ill probably only get supervised weekend access knowing the courts. I may have to buy chocolates flowers and surprise her with a mini fronend in the bedroom. Once its in im sure she will be happy. I was just making sure there wasnt another option. Thanks for the responses. |

What's her objection to the FE in the bedroom? The big 4 in my experience are (in no particular order): 1. Size 2. Cost 3. Noise 4. Power consumption But these are all getting smaller. Just today I saw a 16GB PCIe SSD on Newegg for something like $30. Might be a good way to help install a smaller quieter fanless FE! |

Hi, That Atom sounds interesting After reading about these and getting a huge electricity bill. I am thinking of using one of these as a backend and frontend machine. Would it be powerfull enough for this. Im looking at having a dvico PCI dvb-t card and a usb nano dvb-t. It will go under my tv and we will use it as out main mythbox. I then want to run to frontends of it in the bedroom and other lounge room. Just want to make sure it would be powerful enough before i start purchasing all the parts. I currently have a p4 3.2ghz. What would the 1.6ghz dual core be comparable to. |
